The Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Anyone who has been around the church very long probably knows the African American hymn “This Little Light of Mine” and its invitation to "let it [our lights] shine." However, in our modern contexts, that's easier said than done. If only there were an ancient source that might help modern followers of Jesus shine...
In her new book—The Gospel of John: A Beginner's Guide to the Way, the Truth, and the Life—renowned scholar and author Amy-Jill Levine invites readers to see John's Gospel, replete with images of light and darkness, as a guide which may well help them shine.
Join Amy-Jill Levine and host Josh Scott for this enlightening discussion about the Gospel of John and its emphasis on the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
In this webinar, you will:
- Explore ancient ideas that have taken on richer meanings over time
- Be challenged to develop scriptural awareness and notice the connections that exist between John's Gospel and the Hebrew Scriptures
- Discover what "shining a light" meant for the earliest followers of Jesus
- Be inspired to shine your light in the tradition of John's Gospel
Once again Amy-Jill Levine charts a lively and informative path through a Gospel about which I thought I already knew what I needed to know. In other words, as I read this “beginner’s guide” I realized anew how much meaning is hidden in plain sight. With wit, wisdom, and her signature clarity, Levine takes us on an adventure that highlights the intertextuality of the Bible and the role our senses play in interpreting the Gospel According to John.
