A Scalpel and a Sword Graphic (Website Text)

How do you use the Bible?

Whether you’re reading the Bible in the early hours of the morning for devotional purposes, or citing its passages from memory while responding to that latest inflammatory post on social media (are you as guilty as we are?) - you are using it; it’s just that your goals in each scenario are very different.

According to Josh Scott, the author of Cross-Examined: Reading the Bible in Times of Division, the truth is that we all use the Bible differently depending upon the circumstances. It can be a scalpel with which we perform surgeries on our own hearts, or it can be a sword - a weapon - that we use on others.

Which method of use is more Christlike?

Join Josh Scott and Derrick Weston, leading voices in Progressive Christianity, to uncover new possibilities for using the Bible for the purposes of justice, inclusivity, and generosity. In this webinar, you will:

  • Explore the many ways the Bible is used, for good and for ill
  • Consider responsible uses of Scripture in contentious climates
  • Hear a hopeful word about the Bible’s continued relevance even, and especially, now
